Internship with 𝘘𝘶𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘦

Working with Brooklyn-based author and artist Christine Stoddard gave me invaluable exposure to the world of professional writing. I revised scripts, edited anthologies for publication, and wrote and distributed press releases. One of the largest projects I had the privilege of working on was an original play by Stoddard, which debuted in June 2022. The project was called Mi Abuela: Queen of Nightmares. I supported Stoddard throughout each stage of the process, from perfecting the rough draft to executing promotional outreach strategies to ensuring a smooth and successful premiere week. The cast rehearsed for about two months before performing in June 2022 at the Gene Frankel Theatre.

Mi Abuela has received recognition in the theatre community at Pennsylvania's Fulton Theatre, where it was read aloud to an audience. I modified the original script by adding stage directions and noting specific character inflections. The objective was to emulate the live-action play on paper as accurately as possible for its new cast.

Concurring with weekly rehearsals, I assisted Stoddard as she took on another project. Stoddard was commissioned for directorship by Cris Eli Blak for his play Hard Knock Lyfe. The piece premiered at the Downtown Urban Arts Festival 2022, after having been rehearsed and brought to life by Stoddard. For this project, I took notes during each rehearsal, sent out press releases virtually, and distributed flyers in-person around New York City.

Stoddard gave me the opportunity to serve as literary editor for her project Lunar Phoenix. This anthology publication was a collaboration with 33 authors, sharing their artistic interpretation of challenges and triumphs they’ve experienced as people of color. The submissions varied from nonfiction to dystopian to experimental poetry, centered around the theme of otherness. I proofread the anthology front cover to back cover. I assisted with the design process via Adobe for the front cover, interior, and back cover.  For my work on this project, I received accreditation as a literary editor. To increase the public reach of Stoddard's work, I submitted press releases for Lunar Phoenix, in local and national newspapers. The New York Amsterdam News and Head Topics published articles promoting the project to their reader audience:(https://amsterdamnews.com/news...)
